Plant-Based Startup Targets Adults Over Fifty

Plant-based food startup Perennial is looking to target people over 50, reports Fast Company. It launched with a non-dairy drink designed for gut, brain, and bone health for older consumers.

One driver of the produce was frustration around the fact that older consumers are a very forgotten demographic in food and beverage, according to Brent Taylor who worked on the new product with cofounder Sara Bonham. Only one percent of global innovation targets adults over 50, says Bonham, despite the fact that it is the fastest-growing consumer demographic, and the majority of older consumers say that healthy food and drink is a priority. Both founders had seen that their own parents were interested in plant-based options.

The drink has a blend of four plant proteins, so that it can be digested well; has as much protein as 2 percent dairy milk; and includes ingredients like a prebiotic fiber for bone health and an algae-based ingredient and vitamins for brain health, according to the report. Full Story
