Lyft Expanding Grocery Access Program

Lyft plans to expand its Grocery Access Program to 15 additional markets, reports Food & Wine. The program will provide rides to the grocery store for customers in food deserts for a flat rate that will average $2.50. The company will work with local partners to operate the programs and identify individuals in need.

The goal of the program is to reduce the time, transportation barrier, and financial burden of grocery shopping. Lyft launched a 6 month pilot in 2018 in Washington, D.C., and after a successful run expanded the program to Atlanta. Now, the company is slated to provide the service in Atlantic City, N.J.; Baltimore; Chicago; Columbus, Ohio; Detroit; Indianapolis; Los Angeles; Miami; Ottawa, Canada; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Portland, Ore.; Richmond, Va. and Toronto.
