Japanese Government Supports Culinary Training Program

The Japanese Cuisine and Food Culture Human Resource Development Committee is inviting non-Japanese chefs into a program in Japan to learn Japanese cuisine with the support of the country's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The program includes Japanese language and culinary training followed by practical restaurant training in premium Japanese cuisine and sushi restaurants in Japan for eight months.

Among the conditions for participating in the program, participants age 18 and over must be non-Japanese foreign citizens living in Japan or abroad, a graduate of culinary schools or have experience in working in Japanese cuisine kitchen, have basic knowledge and skills of cooking and "active motivation" for learning Japanese cuisine, and have "plans of engaging in a profession that contributes to promoting Japanese cuisine, food culture, and Japan-produced ingredients after participating in the program."
