Ground Beef E.coli Outbreak Expands

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 156 E. coli infections linked to ground beef as of April 23. The outbreak spread across 10 states, resulting in 20 hospitalizations. The agency reported that no common supplier, distributor, or brand of ground beef had yet been identified as the cause of the outbreak.

Meanwhile, K2D Foods, d.b.a. Colorado Premium Foods, voluntarily recalled 113,424 pounds of raw ground beef products due to potential E. coli contamination. The raw ground beef items were produced on March 26, March 29, April 2, April 5, April 10, and April 12. The items were shipped to distributors in Ft. Orange, Fla., and Norcross, Ga., for further distribution to restaurants.
