Greenleaf Foods to Construct Plant-Based Protein Facility

Greenleaf Foods SPC is breaking ground on a new plant-based protein manufacturing facility in Shelbyville, Ind., which it claims will be North America's largest plant-based protein manufacturing site. The company expects that the 230,000-square-foot facility will more than double its production capacity for its portfolio of brands, including Lightlife and Field Roast Grain Meat Co. According to the company, the facility will be America's largest plant-based protein manufacturing facility.

The $310 million Shelbyville facility is slated to become operational in late 2020 and will extend Greenleaf Foods' network of production plants, which includes facilities in Seattle and Turners Falls, Mass. In addition, the company plans to invest in equipment to increase capacity and scale production at its existing facilities.

Greenleaf Foods is a wholly-owned, independent subsidiary of Maple Leaf Foods Inc. based in Ontario. In January, the company launched its Lightlife Burger, Ground, Italian Sausage and Bratwurst Sausage, which will be among the products made at the new facility.
