Croatian Premium Wine Imports has obtained its federal import license, clearing the way for the company to bring its products to the U.S. market. "Croatian wines have been sought after, yet there has been little representation of high-quality boutique wines on the U.S. market,” says Win Burke, CPWI's co-founder and CEO.
The company says it has direct access to many Dalmatian wineries producing indigenous varietals such as Plavac Mali, Posip, and Tribidrag. CPWI will kick off its U.S. business by introducing the Komarna appellation and its varietals. Komarna consists of seven wineries which have created a cooperative called K7, also known as The Komarna Seven. "Komarna has become recognized for the quality of our wines in Croatia and Europe, we would like to increase our visibility and presence in the U.S.," says Mihovil Stimac, chairman of K7.
CPWI and Komarna are currently working on the logistics of the first shipment.
