After opening its new Bronx, N.Y., distribution facility, FreshDirect is focusing on quality, service, and convenience, reports Progressive Grocer. With the new site, it is now able to increase quality with more temperature zones, dedicated prep areas like its fish-cutting room, and improved research and development space.
The e-commerce company is continuing to evolve its service to meet customer expectations for the highest-quality items, especially when it comes to fresh foods. "Are people comfortable ordering food online?," asks CEO David McInerney. "The acceptance is there for that, but the expectation now is very high, as a consumer. [As they're] switching from bricks and mortar to online, the level of expectation in the quality of the food that they'll be receiving is even higher."
FreshDirect has been focused on expanding its Northeast footprint and recently began expanding in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. In addition, it hopes to expand to Boston within the next year. It will also expand its personalized FoodKick service to New Jersey over the next year. Full Story
