Upscale Restaurant Pork Supplier May Close for Good

Edwards Virginia Smokehouse might be forced to close, reports New York Post. The smokehouse, which supplies New York restaurants such as Eleven Madison Park and Momofuku Ssam Bar with dry-cured, hickory-smoked country ham, burned down three years ago and since then has been operating out of temporary locations.

Owner Sam Wallace Edwards III has been unable to rebuild during a dispute with his insurance company. If he cannot get the insurance payout that he says he's due he will likely be forced out of business. He's now suing the insurance firm for fraud and breach of fiduciary duty in a case that could go all the way to Virginia Supreme Court.

Edwards began operating out of other locations in Kentucky and North Carolina after the fire, but he says the consistency of the flavor is hard to maintain at the new sites. Full Story
