Sustainable Bioproducts has raised $33 million in a Series A financing round from investors including ADM Ventures and Danone ManifestoVentures. Sustainable Bioproducts is working to develop a new way to grow edible protein with great nutritional value and minimal impact on the environment using fermentation technology. The company's technology emerged out of fundamental research into extremophile organisms that live in Yellowstone National Park's volcanic springs.
NASA, the National Science Foundation, the National Park Service, the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Montana State University provided financial and in-kind support to the company which is currently is based out of the University of Chicago's Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
