Saco Foods has acquired California Sun Dry Foods, a company that supplies shelf-stable sun-dried tomato products to supermarkets, mass retailers, and club stores in the U.S. and Canada. The portfolio includes jarred and bagged products in a variety of flavors.
The companies have been discussing the move for several years, and Saco believes that finally closing the deal will strengthen the presence of both California Sun Dry and Saco's Dolci Frutta chocolate hard-shell dessert dip brand in the produce aisle.
Saco hired Charles Olins, who formerly served as VP of sales and marketing at Concord Foods, to take the role of VP and general manager and to grow the California Sun Dry brand. California Sun Dry's former owners, Gary DeAtley and Bill Riley, sold the business with plans to retire.
