British retailer Ocado plans to test Ocado Zoom, a version of its delivery service intended to provide deliveries in less than an hour, reports Winsight Grocery Business. Ocado typically provides next-day delivery, both in the U.K. and with partners such as Kroger in the U.S. Testing will begin in west London in March.
Ocado Zoom would offer a smaller assortment than the retailer's full range and is intended for smaller basket sizes. On-demand orders would include a higher service charge. The service would involve using a micro-fulfillment center operated by the company's robots. After the testing period, Ocado plans to make the offering available to partners licensing its technology, such as Kroger, which is building as many as 20 fulfillment centers with Ocado's technology.
Meanwhile, the first Ocado facility in the U.S. is under construction outside of Cincinnati and is expected to open in 2020. Kroger officials said they would announce two additional sites later in 2019, according to the report. Full Story
