Hy-Vee has launched a pilot program with Flashfood, a mobile app that allows shoppers to browse and purchase food items approaching their "best before" date at reduced prices. By downloading the app, customers can browse through available deals on items like meat, dairy, bread, and snacks. Product purchases are made from the customer's phone and picked up at any time from the Flashfood zone in the grocery store.
The program will be available at Hy-Vee locations in Madison and Fitchburg, Wis. Flashfood anticipates launching in more stores across the country over the next year.
