Publix Super Markets Inc. is expanding into a new specialty category with the launch of private-label ice cream in quart-size containers, reports Tampa Bay Business Journal. Rolling out to all stores, the quarts are available in standard flavors, such as moose tracks and strawberry, as well as eight limited-edition flavors, which for now include lemon sugar cookie, sticky bun, and hula hula Macadamia.
Publix makes its private-label ice cream in dairy processing plants in Lakeland and Deerfield Beach, Fla., as well as in Lawrenceville, Ga. By releasing quart-sized specialty flavors, the grocer is keeping up with competitors such as Whole Foods Market Inc., Trader Joe’s and Lucky’s Market, according to the report. Full Story
