Old Forester’s Rye Whiskey is First New Recipe in 150 Years

Brown-Forman’s founding brand, Old Forester, is slated to launch Old Forester Kentucky Straight Rye Whisky, which is the distillery’s first new grain recipe in almost 150 years.

The whiskey is made of 65 percent rye, 20 percent malted barley, and 15 percent corn. The company says the malted barley allows for a wholly natural fermentation process, leveraging Old Forester's proprietary yeast strain, and it yields a unique floral character. The resulting product is a 100 proof expression that’s balanced and offers a spicy yet floral complexity. The whiskey is inspired by the historic recipe for Normandy Rye, a brand that Brown-Forman acquired in 1940.

Old Forester Kentucky Straight Rye Whisky has a suggested retail price of $22.99, and it’ll be available nationwide on February 1.
