Church Brothers Farms has acquired a commodity vegetable business and a licensing agreement for the Green Giant brand from Growers Express. Under the deal, Church Brothers has the ability to grow, harvest, and sell field-packed vegetable commodities under the Green Giant Fresh license. The deal is projected to increase the company's annual production by 15 to 20 percent.
Growers Express will retain the value-added segment of its business, which includes items such as Cauliflower Crumbles, Vegetable Noodles, and Green Giant Fresh Vegetable Bowls. Jamie Strachan, CEO of Growers Express, says transitioning the commodity segment allows the company to better leverage its expertise as innovators and provides bandwidth to deliver more new products and consumer-focused innovation.
Since Church Brothers will focus on the foodservice sector and Growers Express is primarily committed to retail, the companies don't expect customer overlap to be an issue.
