Instacart has reduced the annual fee of its Express membership to $99 from $149, reports Food & Wine. The changes are reportedly an effort to compete with Amazon Prime for Whole Foods Market delivery customers. In addition to the price cut, the company axed its 5 percent service fee.
Instacart was the exclusive delivery service for Whole Foods before it was acquired by Amazon. Though the move has been positioned as one that directly targets Amazon Prime, the two services have their differences. Besides Whole Foods, Instacart delivers from major brands such as Target, Costco, and Aldi, which offer many of their own products that customers can't necessarily find on Amazon. Full Story
