Mobtown Fermentation is set to open a new brewery and tap room in northwest Baltimore early in 2019 as the maker of Wild Kombucha continues its rapid expansion, reports Baltimore Business Journal. The company also launched a $700,000 equity funding round to help support the upcoming move.
The company ran out of room at its 3,400-square-foot manufacturing space in Lutherville, Md., less than three years after launching production there. The new facility is 13,000 square feet and will help to accommodate the expansion of Wild Kombucha products to more stores and states. The company is expected to finish 2018 with just over $800,000 in revenue, and has seen growth of about 115 percent year-over-year. Mobtown Fermentation plans to hire six to eight new employees in sales, operations, and finance, adding to its current team of 12. The new brewery will also include a taproom and retail area in the front of the space for a physical presence in the community.
Wild Kombucha is sold in more than 700 stores in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, including major grocers like Whole Foods Market, MOMs Organic Market, and Harris Teeter. Mobtown Fermentation recently signed a distribution agreement with produce wholesaler Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative to bring Wild Kombucha to Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. The company also plans to introduce two new non-kombucha products in early summer 2019. Full Story
