Amazon May Introduce Cashierless Tech at Whole Foods

Amazon is reportedly testing its cashierless technology in a larger space laid out like a grocery store, according to close sources, reports The Wall Street Journal. Although Amazon previously said it has no plans to add the technology to Whole Foods Market, sources predict that would be the most likely application of adapting the technology for larger spaces.

The cashierless system is already in use at seven Amazon Go convenience stores in Seattle, Chicago, and San Francisco. The company plans to build more of these small stores, according to one of the people familiar with the matter. Each is typically less than 2,500 square feet and sells a range of drinks, prepared foods, and groceries. Full Story (WSJ Subscription Required)
