Italian chocolate maker Pernigotti will cease production at its main facility, ending a tradition that dates back to 1860, reports European Supermarket Magazine. While the brand is expected to survive, production will be moved abroad, according to Italian news source La Stampa. The move will lead to job losses in Novi Lugre, Italy, where 200 people are employed.
Pernigotti reportedly intends to stay in Italy and is seeking a domestic production partner after the partial closure of the facility. The company is said to be talking to some major Italian companies in the confectionery sector.
The Pernigotti family owned the company for five generations until 1995, when it was sold to liquor company Averna and then to Turkey-based Toksƶz in 2013. Pernigotti's most widely known brands include Gianduiotto, Cremino, Pepitas, and Nocciolato. Full Story
