The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention narrowed its E. coli warning linked to romaine lettuce products, informing consumers not to eat romaine lettuce harvested from the Central Coastal growing regions of northern and central California. The agency reported 11 additional illnesses in connection to the outbreak, totaling 43.
Meanwhile, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) partnered with major trade associations to develop labeling to identify origin of harvest regions for romaine products, according to the FDA Commissioner. Romaine lettuce entering the market will now be labeled with a harvest location and a harvest date. Romaine entering the market can also be labeled as being hydroponically or greenhouse grown.
