Child nutrition brand Once Upon a Farm has closed a $20 million Series B financing round to grow in retail and product innovation. The California-based company currently offers lines of baby food, applesauce, and smoothies that are cold-pressed to better lock in nutrients, taste, and color compared to shelf-stable alternatives. The brand now plans to expand its footprint to the baby aisle with in-line coolers, and recently announced a new line of baby food cups specifically designed for spoon-feeding occasions, that will be in stores early in 2019.
The investment was led by CAVU Venture Partners and as part of the agreement, CAVU's co-founder and managing partner Brett Thomas, along with Jared Jacobs, will join the company's board. Once Upon a Farm reports that since CEO John Foraker and actress Jennifer Garner joined the company as co-founders in September 2017, the brand has expanded from 300 retail locations to more than 8,500. Key retail partners include Target, Whole Foods, Kroger, Publix, and Walmart.
