Beekman 1802 Plans Expansion

Upstate New York-based Beekman 1802 is moving forward with plans to build a 12,000-square-foot building in Sharon Springs, N.Y., reports Albany Business Review. The $1.64 million project is expected to give the company more warehouse space.

Beekman 1802, which has about 30 employees between Schenectady and Sharon Springs, also plans to move to a larger, executive office in Schenectady. The company has seen significant growth over the last few months, as it recently started selling products on the Home Shopping Network.

Beekman 1802 began when founder Josh Kilmer-Purcell and his husband Brent Ridge lost their high-paying jobs in New York City during the recession and decided to move to their weekend home, a 19th century mansion and farm in Sharon Springs, NY. They began selling goat milk soaps, lotions, and cheese. Beekman 1802 has grown into a lifestyle brand, with offerings that include food products and cookbooks. The products are sold on the brand's e-commerce site, on home shopping channels, and at the company's flagship store, according to the report. Full Story
