Fifty-nine percent of grocery consumers are responsible packaging shoppers, meaning that they are consciously making buying decisions based on packaging material, its perceived recyclability, and corporate commitments to sustainability, the ninth annual EcoFocus Trend Study commissioned by Evergreen Packaging revealed. This segment of shoppers has grown 16 percentage points since 2013, when they represented 43 percent of all shoppers.

More than three in four shoppers in this group have already made changes in what they buy to reduce exposure to chemicals from food and beverages. The majority express concerns about the safety of plastic and Bisphenol A for food and beverage packaging, and they want to learn more about plant-based food and beverage packaging and plastic-free grocery aisles.
