Mars CEO Grant F. Reid believes that the "global supply chain is broken" and the company can fix it by changing the way it does business. This will include a $1 billion investment to accelerate progress addressing "urgent threats" in its sustainability program.

Mars will combine its focus on procurement and sustainability to bring sustainability to the core of the business, and will transition away from the traditional commodity approach of sourcing beginning with 10 key materials, including cocoa, fish, rice, and mint. The company believes that collaboration is key to changing the system and will focus on deepening and expanding industry collaboration and NGO partnerships.

Mars will underscore its commitment by making a notable presence at the UN General Assembly/Climate Week NY. The company will also partner with Project Everyone to launch a popup radio station that pushes for urgent progress on the UN's Global Goals and will release a series of short films about transforming the commodity approach.
