Yogi Builds First LEED-Certified Tea Plant in the U.S.

Yogi has opened a 189,000-square-foot tea manufacturing facility in Eugene, Ore. The facility was constructed to meet the standards for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, making it the first tea production in the U.S. to do so, according to the company. It's designed to minimize pollution, waste, and heat island impacts. Features include a southwest facing office building that can take advantage of natural light exposure, as well as energy and water efficiencies through efforts such as capturing 90 percent of storm runoff and implementing drought-tolerant landscape.

Yogi expects the site to establish a more efficient blueprint for product testing, manufacturing, and employee collaboration. There are high-tech research and development and quality assurance laboratories on site, and the company says the facility is not only intended to suit its current needs but also to prepare for future expansion.
