Whole Foods Market, Hy-Vee, Aldi, and Target ranked as the top four sustainable seafood retailers, according to Greenpeace's Carting Away the Oceans report. Overall, 90 percent of the retailers profiled received passing scores. Whole Foods remains the top ranked retailer, following the implementation of a shelf-stable tuna policy and sourcing improvements.
On the other end of the spectrum, Price Chopper, Save Mart, and Wakefern scored lowest in the 2018 report. Trader Joe's was singled out, with Green Peace noting it committed to improve on seafood sustainability eight years earlier but had still not established a public sustainable seafood procurement policy.
