President Trump has signed an executive order that will help the U.S. seafood industry. The order will identify and remove unnecessary regulatory barriers restricting American fisherman and aquaculture producers, combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, and “provide good stewardship of public funds and stakeholder time and resources.”
“The President’s Executive Order is an important step towards improving the competitiveness of the entire U.S. seafood supply chain,” said Bill DeMento, president of Stronger America Through Seafood, an industry coalition that advocates for the U.S. seafood industry, in a statement. “It provides regulatory reform to maximize commercial fishing while also enabling producers to revolutionize American seafood production through sustainable offshore aquaculture. Combined, these measures will strengthen our coastal and agricultural communities and create thousands of jobs.”
