According to a new study by the Food Marketing Institute, in 2018, grocery foodservice sales grew 8.2 percent year over year, totaling $21.5 billion, reports Supermarket News. However, a survey of shoppers revealed that grocery stores can improve their prepared meal solutions by offering faster in-and-out service, more cuisine variety, and lower prices, among other things.
“Competitive differentiation strategies abound for our grocery members who place an emphasis on variety and reduce obstacles through fast and convenient shopping experiences,” Rick Stein, vice president of fresh foods at FMI, said in a statement. “These experiences may also be enabled by technology, as we’re witness to similar motivations in the restaurant industry.” Full Story
