NYC Prohibits Alcohol Ads on City Property

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has signed an executive order banning promotions for alcoholic beverages from the city's wi-fi kiosks, bus shelters, newsstands, phone booths, and street corner recycling repositories, reports Crain's New York Business. The ban allows breweries, wineries, distilleries, and distributors in contract with the city for such space to run out the term of their deal.

Mayor de Blasio cited studies finding that exposure to alcohol commercials increases the odds of consumption, especially among adolescents. "This order banning alcohol ads from city property reaffirms our commitment to health equity and our stand to protect the well-being of all New Yorkers," he adds.

The law allows stadiums, eateries, and entertainment venues on city property authorized to sell alcohol to continue to display alcohol ads. Full Story
